DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton, Pittsburgh-GreenTree, Desmone Architects
During a complex, phased renovation of a 460-room hotel, Beth was well-versed in the technical requirements and creative problem solving necessary for a successful project. She faced the challenges head on and followed through on the implementation of the solutions.
Beth understands the relationship between the landlord and tenant. Her personality and skill were great assets in working with the tenant to meet their needs without having to go outside of the framework established in the lease.
Beth is a customer-focused architect that is responsive and always considers the intent of the design. She is not shy to take on large tasks.

Beth is a hard-working and consistently reliable architect. She was instrumental in detailed drawing review and reconciliation of issues on complex projects... In addition to general architectural guidance, she assisted in successful completion of LEED certification. I would recommend Beth without hesitation. She is a true asset to any project team.

Beth was my supervisor for the design of an affordable housing project and a multi-family housing project. Beth was such a treat to work with. Not only was she a good mentor - she is professional, organized, detail oriented all while having a good sense of humor. She is also willing and ready to take on multiple tasks and motivated to learn new software. I highly recommend her for future work.
Beth regularly went above and beyond her duties and participated in continuing education and networking opportunities both inside and outside the office. She was part of our Ownership Transition Committee following our Strategic Planning exercise, developed and managed a series of internal continuing education programs called ‘Desmone University’, and most recently was our Hospitality Brand Manager. She regularly mentored younger staff and encouraged their professional development.”Beth exhibits an unparalleled commitment to self-improvement and is always looking for ways to enhance her skills and knowledge. She cares deeply about her work and understands its importance in the broader context of the project. She is well-organized, [is] eager to learn and treats each task as an opportunity for growth. She is intelligent and articulate, and exhibits a passion for her work.
Beth was a pleasure to work with and I hope to be working with her again in the future. She was always more than willing to answer any of my questions and took extra time when necessary to help me further understand the impact of design decisions. Beth’s vast experience combined with her collaborative nature makes Beth a valued asset to a project. I give Beth my highest recommendation.
...[Beth] is conscientious and detail-oriented and never misses a deadline. I always feel more confident about the quality of the work that we produce when Beth is on the team.
[Beth is a] brilliant and hard-working individual, [who] can take a project from the programming to post occupancy evaluation stage. Her uncanny communication skills allow her to convey the most complex issues and distill [them] down to the clients in the simplest of terms so that they are easy to digest and understand. With a strong dedication and devotion to her clients and her co-workers/staff, she is a true leader through and through.
...We appreciate the clear direction [Beth] provides. It makes drawing coordination a breeze.
Partnering with Beth on the design and construction of projects has increased the value we were able to provide to clients. She is a very proactive Project Architect with great coordination and communication skills to keep the design team on track with the client’s needs.
Beth is a great architect and project manager. Clients respect her work and she works hard for them.

Beth was my client and direct contact... While demanding high standards on behalf of [the architecture firm] and [our shared client], and working through sometimes difficult project issues, Beth was always collegial, collaborative, and enjoyable to work with. She showed professionalism, competence, and attention to detail during meetings, phone conferences, site visits, and other project activities in which we interacted.
Beth is a seasoned professional that I would recommend to anyone. She is customer-focused, is centered on doing what’s right, is easy to communicate with, listens, and has credibility to get things accomplished. In working with Beth, she projects a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and takes customer problems to heart. She meets her commitments and, through her work ethic, has gained my trust and confidence.
I have worked directly with Beth Nelson while i) employed as a Building Plan Examining Engineer with the City of Pittsburgh PA’s Bureau of Building Inspection and ii) currently as a Project Manager with the Design and Construction group here at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. I recently worked with Beth on an office upgrades project for Human Resources here at Duquesne. The clients were very pleased with the design that was delivered. Beth is i) knowledgeable with Building Codes / Accessibility, ii) responsive to needs and demands of the owner/client and iii) and due to the dynamic nature of construction, is adaptable to changes that may arise. Beth is a respected Architect and a pleasure to work with.
Beth played an important role in the success of the 2012 Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest. She worked tirelessly in her fundraising efforts for the Foundation and continually supported her classmates as well as our CF families. The 50 Finest program is better because she was a part of it!
Beth is a passionate individual whom I got to know while working together on coordination and event planning for the emerging group, [AIA’s] Pittsburgh Women in Design. She was a great team member in the volunteer group, very reliable to follow through with the tasks at hand and, more importantly, always bringing earnest enthusiasm to the table.

I enjoy photographing Beth’s projects for three important reasons. First, her design work is very well-conceived; second, Beth is very good at conveying her thoughts; and third, she was very easy to work with.
You can see how much Beth loves getting to know her clients and the backstory behind each project. After all, to Beth, projects are the physical embodiment of her clients’ goals and of the team’s blood, sweat, tears — and joy and laughter — over an extended period of time. While Beth is very serious about she does for a living, she tries to insert some fun into the whole process.
